Cyclist taken to hospital after crash with pickup in Berkeley

The cyclist crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. at University Avenue and Seventh Street, police said.

A cyclist was taken to the hospital after being struck by a driver in West Berkeley early Thursday evening.

The cyclist sustained moderate injuries after the crash just after 5:30 p.m. at University Avenue and Seventh Street, police said.

The cyclist was bleeding from the head after the crash but was conscious and breathing, authorities said.

BPD said the pickup truck driver had been westbound on University Avenue just prior to the collision.

No other details were immediately available, but the crash followed two traffic fatalities earlier in the day, in downtown Berkeley and West Berkeley.
