Homeless woman attacked with bat near UC Berkeley
The woman was hit multiple times and sustained a broken arm, police said.
A homeless woman in her 50s was attacked this week in Berkeley by someone wielding a baseball bat, sending her to the hospital.
Authorities say the attack happened in the 2400 block of Channing Way, in the Southside neighborhood near UC Berkeley.
The woman, who was struck multiple times and sustained a broken arm, went to the hospital for medical care Thursday.
She said the incident happened sometime the prior night, Berkeley police said in response to a Scanner inquiry.
The hospital called BPD at 10:40 p.m. Thursday to report the attack.
As of Friday, no arrests had been made and the investigation was ongoing, police said.
Berkeley has had about 130 felony assaults this year compared to a similar number last year over the same period, according to BPD data.
Felony assault reports overall have been on the decline in Berkeley since a peak of 215 in 2022.
