The Solano Stroll could "cease to exist" in Berkeley without significant city support — estimated at $300,000 over two years, records show.

Organizers say they may have to hold the event in Albany alone this year if they can't find a solution to the funding shortfall.

The Scanner has the scoop.

Organizers say security measures, including street barricades, have driven up costs and may threaten the event’s survival.

Tuesday night, the city held a meeting to collect input on what residents hope to see in their new director of police accountability. We watched remotely.

About 20 people took part online and another 20 or so in person (including a dozen city staff and elected officials).

Berkeley has now asked community members to share their views in an anonymous online survey (by June 10) on "What makes a great director of police accountability for the city of Berkeley?"

The City Council dismissed the prior director in February. He is now suing the city. A Scanner story is forthcoming.
