Police: 2 drivers arrested in hit-and-run DUI crashes
One collision sounded like a gunshot. In another, BPD said a driver ran a red light while flashing his brights.
Separate collisions in Berkeley resulted in two hit-and-run DUI arrests Monday evening, police report.
In yet a third incident, a cyclist sustained a leg injury when a driver struck her on Shattuck Avenue, police said.
Earlier Monday, police also investigated a crash involving a teenage cyclist on his way to Berkeley High.
At 7:30 p.m., Berkeley police got a report of a gunshot and a woman screaming in the 1100 block of Euclid Avenue, near Codornices Park.
Another person in the same area reported a hit-and-run collision, which police determined had been the sound mistaken for gunfire.
Responding officers found that a northbound driver, a man in his 60s in a gray Audi, had struck a woman in her 20s as she biked north on Euclid, police said.
The woman, who called 911 herself, according to early reports, had minor injuries and declined medical transport.
According to police, the driver parked some distance away from the crash scene. When a man who had been cycling with the injured woman confronted him, he denied having hit anyone, police said.
The driver, a 61-year-old Berkeley man, ultimately failed field sobriety tests. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and felony hit-and-run causing injury, police said.
As of Tuesday, the driver had posted bail and was no longer in custody, according to booking records.
Earlier in the evening, police said a driver turning left onto Shattuck Avenue struck a cyclist at Russell Street.
That collision happened shortly before 6 p.m.
Berkeley police said the cyclist, a woman in her 30s, was eastbound on Russell Street when a westbound driver hit her.
The driver, a woman in her 50s in a gray Toyota, had stopped at the stop sign and was turning onto southbound Shattuck when the collision happened, police said.
The cyclist was taken to the hospital with a possible broken leg, police said.
The final crash of the night, a three-vehicle collision, took place at 11:45 p.m. at University and San Pablo avenues.
It was initially reported as another crash involving a pedestrian or cyclist, but that turned out not to be the case.
Witnesses reported that a driver in a black Lexus had run the red light while speeding north on San Pablo Avenue at University Avenue, police said.
The driver flashed his brights as he went through the intersection, then broadsided a Hyundai that had been westbound on University, police said.
The Hyundai struck a Prius that had been waiting at the southbound red light on San Pablo.
Police said the Lexus driver fled the scene.
Officers were able to find him on Eastshore Highway at Virginia Street thanks to a community member's help, authorities said.
Everyone involved in the crash declined medical transport, though some reported pain, police said.
The driver, a 24-year-old Berkeley man, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit-and-run causing property damage and resisting or obstructing arrest, according to public records. He was released on a citation.
Pedestrian crash involving Cybertruck on Saturday

Readers also asked TBS about a collision involving a pedestrian and a Tesla Cybertruck over the weekend.
In that incident, a woman in her 30s was crossing Shattuck Avenue heading east in the southern crosswalk at Virginia Street when a driver struck her, police said.
The slow-speed collision happened Saturday at 9:25 a.m.
The driver, who was traveling at about 5 mph, did not see the pedestrian due to the glare of the sun, police said.
The pedestrian was reportedly thrown 10 to 15 feet but escaped serious injury, according to initial reports.
"As a precaution, the pedestrian was transported to a local trauma center with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries," BPD said.
She did not lose consciousness at the scene and was transported "Code 2," without lights or sirens, according to emergency dispatches.
