TBS turns 4 with record membership and $9K in gifts

This week, The Berkeley Scanner officially turned 4. We asked readers to celebrate with us, with the hope of raising at least $5,000 from 40 or more members.
Good news: We crushed both goals! TBS raised more than $9,000 from 85 readers, more than twice our member goal.
We now have 1,426 paying members, our highest total yet.
We also heard from many of you throughout the campaign, by email and social media. Readers were candid about times being tight. Please know that we do not take your generosity lightly.

We were the first news outlet to report today's shooting — which quickly became a regional story. We've now posted five updates, including details from the OPD press conference this afternoon.
