Police investigate road rage near North Berkeley BART
A motorist told police a woman had brandished a gun at her from another vehicle, according to initial reports.
A road rage report, with a possible armed motorist, drew a large police response outside North Berkeley BART station Wednesday night.
The incident closed parts of Sacramento Street at Virginia Street and drew more than a dozen police cruisers, lights flashing, for nearly an hour.
Berkeley police fired less-lethal rounds at a vehicle to help resolve the situation when a driver refused to get out of her car.
The incident began with a 911 call at about 8 p.m.
One motorist told police a woman had brandished a gun at her from another vehicle, according to initial reports.
Local residents at the scene told The Scanner they had seen police slowly following a driver, who at first refused to stop, in an effort to pull her over.
The driver ultimately stopped a short distance away as officers surrounded her with their vehicles.
The Scanner arrived as police were repeatedly ordering a woman out of the car while she shouted and refused, her two pit bulls barking from the backseat.
Eventually, police told the driver they would fire less-lethal rounds at the vehicle if she did not get out.
After they shot the rounds, striking the outside of the car, both occupants immediately surrendered.
Police ultimately arrested at least one woman on suspicion of brandishing, and took her dogs to the Berkeley animal shelter.
At the scene, she denied she had brandished a weapon before police led her away.
Officers did confiscate at least one item from the vehicle as evidence. Further details were not immediately available.
