Dead body found at UC Berkeley

A deceased person was found on the UC Berkeley campus near Oxford Street on Friday morning.

Gardeners found the body while working on campus at the West Circle, a passer-by told The Scanner, not far from Weill Hall and the eucalyptus grove, on one of the main campus pathways.

The University of California Police Department responded to the scene. The time of discovery was not immediately available.

The Berkeley Fire Department also responded, just after 10:30 a.m., according to radio dispatches reviewed by The Scanner.

Authorities had to cut a hole in the bushes to remove the body, which appeared to have been there for some time.

The individual appeared to be male but no official details were immediately available.

As of publication time, the coroner's office had not arrived.

In April, a deceased man was found on campus closer to Telegraph Avenue.

The Scanner is seeking additional information.

Update, 12:25 p.m. The Alameda County coroner's office and other authorities remove a body from UC Berkeley.
