In other news: Firefighter fundraiser

The Berkeley Fire Fighters Association has launched an online fundraiser to help a close colleague fight cancer.
According to the fundraiser, firefighter Ethan has elected a specialized treatment that has better outcomes but comes at a cost, requiring extended time away from his wife and child.
The approach "is not fully covered by insurance, leaving Ethan with significant out-of-pocket expenses," the association wrote. "This fundraiser is meant to ease the financial burden so he can focus on recovery without additional stress."
As of publication time, nearly 180 people had raised almost $43,000 of the $50,000 goal.
