Magnitude 2.9 earthquake shakes Berkeley
The epicenter was in Oakland but some felt it in Berkeley. It followed eight quakes in San Ramon that began at about 2:30 a.m.
A magnitude 2.9 earthquake rattled Berkeley on Monday afternoon, following eight quakes in San Ramon that began at 2:30 a.m.
"Felt it on Northside. My wall rattled," wrote one Berkeley resident on Reddit.
"Southside here. Felt like a truck ran into my house," wrote another. "Twice."
A third community member described "three distinct shudders here."
The Oakland quake's epicenter was near Park Boulevard and the Warren Freeway.
It was recorded at 2.55 p.m. with a depth of 2.9 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
About 100 Berkeley residents had sent in "did you feel it" reports to the USGS as of publication time.
The Oakland quake followed eight quakes in San Ramon (magnitude 2.5 or higher) that began Monday just after 2:30 a.m.
