Police are looking for a woman who carjacked a man at gunpoint while he ate fast food in his car in northwest Berkeley this week.

The man had just bought food from McDonald's, "including a few extra burgers to give away to people in need," when the crime happened.

Police said the carjacker was 40-50 years old with a medium build. She had black hair in a ponytail and was missing a “few front teeth.”

In other news

This was an interesting week in policy, with the Berkeley City Council approving the use of drones by Berkeley police and considering whether to relax rules around the use of helicopters and police dogs. We have a story in the works.

Also, we've been checking with the coroner's office daily and are told that the names of the cyclist who died in a crash last weekend and the UC Berkeley student who died after a frat party remain unavailable.

The coroner's office has been unable to find the cyclist's family and said the student has not been positively identified.

UPDATE: As of Wednesday, Nov. 19, the coroner’s office said it had still not found the man’s family and could not release his name.

Police do not suspect foul play but the fraternity safety coordinator may face criminal charges related to furnishing alcohol to minors, BPD said.
