Authorities have arrested the suspect in a recent shooting in West Berkeley, The Scanner has learned.

Berkeley police arrested Ernest Portlock, 44, in San Francisco on Friday shortly before midnight.

Investigators had already secured a warrant for his arrest, according to booking records.

Portlock was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, shooting at an inhabited vehicle or dwelling and being a felon in possession of a firearm, jail records show.

Berkeley police have so far declined to comment on the circumstances of the arrest.

On Monday morning, BPD also arrested 41-year-old Linika Conners on suspicion of helping Portlock after the shooting.

She is being held without bail. No other information about her alleged role in the crime was immediately available.

The non-injury shooting took place on Addison Street between Ninth and 10th streets on Oct. 12 shortly before 7 p.m.

Investigating officers found casings in the roadway that night.

Witnesses heard people fighting and then a car speeding away.

"There were four gunshots," another community member told TBS earlier this month, on condition of anonymity. "They fled in a white SUV. We saw someone wearing all black and a mask. The house is known for issues and police were called in the past when a person drove off with someone on the hood of their car."

The gunfire on Addison Street was Berkeley's most recent shooting.

There have been 13 other shootings this year, compared with 22 over the same period last year.

According to jail records, Portlock is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.

He and Conners are scheduled for arraignment Wednesday at Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.

According to court records, Portlock's earliest conviction in Alameda County dates back to 2000, for cocaine sales, when he was 18. He was placed on five years of probation as a result.

In 2007, Portlock was convicted of marijuana sales or transportation. He was sentenced to a year in jail.

A robbery arrest in Oakland from 2017 was never charged.

His most recent felony conviction in Alameda County stemmed from a 2019 grand theft case, which resulted in a year of unsupervised court probation, according to court records.
