Authorities are investigating gunfire in West Berkeley on Sunday night.

"There's been a shooting on Addison between 10th and 9th," a reader told The Scanner shortly before 7 p.m. "Multiple shots. Area crawling with police."

Callers "heard people fighting" at about 6:20 p.m., when the shooting occurred, and saw at least one vehicle speeding off toward the freeway, according to emergency dispatches reviewed by TBS.

"There were four gunshots," another community member said, on condition of anonymity. "They fled in a white SUV. We saw someone wearing all black and a mask. The house is known for issues and police were called in the past when a person drove off with someone on the hood of their car."

Berkeley police found multiple casings on the block when they responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported.

As of publication time, the roadway remained closed, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

Berkeley has had 13 other shootings in 2025, including one by police. Last year there were 22 shootings in the same period.

Update, 9 p.m. The roadway has reopened.
