TBS Today, Jan. 24

Today's feature is a thoughtful piece from Kate Darby Rauch about the man who was found dead on the UC Berkeley campus this month.

He often slept outside the Cheeseboard and was a fixture for decades on Euclid Avenue north of campus — including when I was a student at the j-school 20 years ago.

Many remember him as kind, while he could also "preach" in ways that have been described and experienced by many others as racist and homophobic.

He was clearly a complicated person with many sides.

I learned a lot from her reporting.

Remembering Robert Shadric, a longtime Berkeley presence
To some, he was Robert. To others, he was Jamal. He often slept outside the Cheeseboard and could also be found on Euclid Avenue.

We also got the scoop on a UC Berkeley sex crime arrest related to a case we covered earlier this week.

Finally, we're sorry to report that the motorcycle rider who was hurt earlier this week — an El Cerrito man in his 40s — is now reportedly intubated and in critical condition.

We're hoping to learn more.
