Woman reports kidnapping attempt of boy, 10, in Berkeley
Authorities said they "do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the greater community’s safety" at this time.
Police are investigating a report of a possible kidnapping attempt in West Berkeley on Thursday morning.
The investigation began after a mother told police she had been walking with her 10-year-old son near Ninth and Addison streets just before 7 a.m. when a man and woman in a "large white van" approached her.

"The parent reported that the woman tried to grab the child," but the mother and boy, who live in Berkeley, were able to run away, BPD said.
The woman told police the people in the van were strangers to her.
Officers responded immediately to search for the van but did not find it.
"Since that time, investigators have collected evidence and continue to search for information to understand what occurred," Berkeley police said Thursday afternoon. "Based on the information we have at the moment, we do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the greater community’s safety."
BPD said they are continuing to look into the report and ask anyone with tips to call the Berkeley Police Department at 510-981-5742.
