TBS Today, Feb. 29

This afternoon we were able to observe part of an active shooter training for local first responders. It's always fascinating to watch how they make order out of chaos even during practice scenarios.

We also had the news today about a police investigation into an attempted rape: The suspect is in custody and the investigation is underway.

Upcoming absence

Mark your calendar: We'll be out of town for a few days next week starting Wednesday.

If we're able to publish stories we will, but our focus will be on a data journalism training course that will take much of our time.

We may miss some news, but we know you'll understand. This is one of those times we have to put on a different hat and accept that there's only so much we can do sometimes as a one-person news outlet.

We'll remind you next week, but we just wanted to plant the seed.

Election news

With Election Day around the corner, turnout remains extremely low for Alameda County ballots (and likely around the state).

As of today, just 8% of the county's ballots have been received.

Polls close Tuesday at 8 p.m. You should have gotten a mail-in ballot, but you can also vote in person up through Tuesday night if you are so inclined.
