Authorities have identified a man whose body was found in the water near Golden Gate Fields racetrack earlier this week as 26-year-old Kelei Tang of Cupertino.

The Alameda County coroner's office said Tang's cause of death had not been determined as of Sunday afternoon pending the ongoing investigation.

Earlier on Sunday, at least two Bay Area news outlets reported that Tang, who went by the name "Jerry," had gone missing from Saratoga and was last seen Tuesday on Juniper Lane, according to the Santa Clara sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said Tang was an avid hiker.

No further information was immediately available.

Original story, Thursday, Sept. 21: Authorities are investigating the discovery Wednesday of a body in the water near the Golden Gate Fields racetrack on the Albany-Berkeley border.

Albany police recovered the body near the shoreline not far from 1100 Eastshore Highway at about 3:50 p.m.

The person was deceased, according to a statement from the city of Albany, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Alameda County coroner's office responded to the area to help with the investigation, the city said.

The cause of death is currently unknown, the city of Albany said.

An Albany spokesman said no further details were immediately available pending the ongoing investigation.

A person in the area around 8 a.m. Wednesday said they saw the U.S. Coast Guard helicopter hovering overhead between the racetrack barns and the water.

As of Wednesday night, the coroner's office said no information could be shared about the deceased person's identity pending family notification.
