Bar fight at Kip's in Berkeley sends young man to Highland
The incident initially was reported as a stabbing with multiple victims shortly after midnight Wednesday, Berkeley police said.
Three people were injured Wednesday during a large bar fight in Berkeley, including a man in his 20s who was taken to Highland Hospital with a scalp laceration.
The incident initially was reported as a stabbing with multiple victims shortly after midnight, Berkeley police said.
When officers responded to Kip’s Bar and Grill, at 2439 Durant Ave., they found several victims, all young men.
One of them required ambulance transport to Highland Hospital, the regional trauma center, while the other two had less serious injuries, authorities said.
Police said all three young men who were injured had likely been cut with a knife, but there was "not a lot of cooperation" at the scene and officers ultimately made no arrests.
The investigation is ongoing, Berkeley police said.
Shortly after the call to Kip's, police also received calls about possible gunfire in West Berkeley around Seventh Street.
Officers responded and searched several blocks but found no evidence of a shooting. One person in the area said he believed the sound had been fireworks.
