An "aggressive" sports car driver struck a motorist in a Southside Berkeley intersection Sunday evening, then ditched his sports car on the Clark Kerr Campus and fled the area, according to community and police reports.
The driver, who was said to be speeding in the area of Dwight Way and College Avenue, "hit a blue sedan head-on in the middle of the intersection" just after 5:10 p.m., a UC Berkeley student who lives in the nearby Unit 2 student housing complex told The Berkeley Scanner.
The crash mangled the front of the blue sedan, but no injuries were reported. The sports car driver then reversed and sped away down College Avenue.
The student said he "happened to be looking outside from my dorm window in Unit 2 when I saw the collision happen. There was a loud bang that was heard across my hall."
Berkeley police responded to the scene to investigate the crash and later found the abandoned gray sports car on the Clark Kerr Campus about four blocks southeast of the original crash scene.
The driver was described as a Black man in his 20s with mid-length dreadlocks, 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a slim build wearing black and bright blue clothing, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
