Update: We did it! Thank you to everyone who answered the call, and to those of you who have been with us from the beginning.

The Berkeley Scanner had an incredible first month. We'd love to close it out with a bang.

We've published more than 70 articles, including many scoops — such as Monday's police chief announcement — and countless exclusive stories that would otherwise go unreported. We've pushed authorities for transparency and answered many reader questions.

The scale and magnitude of the kind of news that happened in Berkeley in October was unprecedented in my decade of reporting here. We've been hitting the subjects of traffic safety, campus safety and gun violence particularly hard.

And the outpouring of support has been amazing: We're just inches away from 500 paying members. Can you help us cross the finish line by Oct. 31?

We don't have angel investors and we don't do ads: Our members alone are what makes The Berkeley Scanner possible.

We have levels of support for nearly all budgets. Whatever you can chip in will make a difference and help us continue this important work in the years to come.

The clock is ticking: Help us make that final push.
