Berkeley car crash sends cyclist, 66, to hospital
Police blocked southbound traffic on Sacramento Street at Oregon Street, and northbound traffic at Julia Street, for the investigation.
A car crash in South Berkeley knocked a cyclist unconscious Friday and sent him to the local trauma hospital, according to early reports.
Berkeley police said officers responded to the crash, in the 2800 block of Sacramento Street, at about 1:10 p.m.
Police blocked southbound traffic at Oregon Street, and northbound traffic at Julia Street, for the investigation.
The cyclist, who is reportedly 66 years old, was thrown approximately 10 feet into the air and initially knocked unconscious, authorities said.
According to unconfirmed reports, he was riding his bike across the street when a southbound driver struck him at about 25 mph.
A witness reported "major damage to the windshield from impact."

The cyclist was taken "Code 3" (with lights and sirens) to Highland Hospital for treatment.
No other details were immediately available.
The investigation is ongoing.
Update, 2:20 p.m. The roadway has reopened.
Police also confirmed that the driver remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation. No arrests were made.
