Fire extinguisher robbery of Cal student: Suspect charged
Miles Anderson, a suspect in an attempted murder case from Oakland, was already on supervised release for gun possession, police said.
Two men are now in custody following the robbery of a UC Berkeley student on a scooter near campus earlier this month, authorities report.
The investigation dates back to March 8 when police say the men confronted a student who was riding a scooter at Dwight Way and Hillegass Avenue at about 2:50 p.m.
The men "sprayed him with a fire extinguisher" and stole his scooter and phone before leaving in a white SUV, according to court papers.
The robbery was caught on surveillance video, police said.

The investigation ultimately led police to a stolen white Kia that had been abandoned in Oakland — where officers also found the student's cellphone along with a second phone belonging to one of the suspects, according to court papers.
From their investigation, police identified that man as Miles Anderson, a suspect in an attempted murder case from Oakland in 2024 who is also on supervised release for gun possession, authorities said.

In 2024, Anderson was also charged with a felony sex crime, sexual penetration by a foreign object, although the charge was later reduced to assault with a deadly weapon as part of a plea deal, court papers show.
In charging papers, BPD noted that Anderson had reportedly sprayed the woman with a fire extinguisher when she rebuffed him in that incident.
Anderson was placed on probation through August 2027 as a result of that case.
After identifying him, Berkeley detectives sought a warrant for Anderson in connection with the scooter robbery.
Hayward police arrested him this week and turned him over to BPD.
The other suspect from the Berkeley robbery was arrested in San Francisco later that same day after what police described as a "violent carjacking" and a separate robbery via knife.
But information about the arrest was not available until much later.

The SF carjacking victim told police that a stranger had opened his door, ordered him to get out and punched him before taking his convertible.
SFPD followed the car via drone and ultimately arrested the driver, who was identified as 32-year-old Anthony Edmond of Oakland.
Edmond has since been charged with robbery and carjacking in connection with the San Francisco case, according to court records.
He remains in custody in San Francisco at this time.

Anderson, who has two convictions for gun possession as well as the assault conviction, according to court papers, is now being held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
He has been charged with robbery and multiple enhancements, in addition to allegations of a prior strike, according to court records.
No bail amount is currently listed in public court records.
The 24-year-old Hayward resident is set for a pretrial hearing April 2 at Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland, booking records show.
