A driver struck two pedestrians Thursday night in Berkeley, sending them to Highland Hospital with significant injuries, police said.

Limited details were available.

The man and woman, who are reportedly in their early 20s, were in the southern crosswalk heading east across Shattuck Avenue when a northbound driver hit them at Prince Street just after 10:35 p.m., authorities said.

Berkeley police said they had assessed the driver and found no immediate signs of intoxication. No arrests have been made.

Officers are now responding to Highland Hospital for an update.

At this point, police said they are not calling in their Fatal Accident Investigation Team, which handles severe crashes as well as fatal ones.
