Police are investigating the discovery of a body Wednesday morning near UC Berkeley's Clark Kerr Campus.

Authorities have said there is "no threat to public safety" but have not yet shared additional details.

UC Berkeley police put out an alert shortly before 8 a.m. advising people to avoid the Clark Kerr volleyball courts "until further notice."

In subsequent alerts, they updated the location to the "wildland area" east of Clark Kerr in the Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve, a 208-acre park in the Berkeley and Oakland hills on either side of Claremont Avenue.

UC Berkeley and city of Berkeley police initially responded to the scene but East Bay Regional Park District police have now taken over the investigation, authorities said.

"Continue to avoid the area as police conclude the investigation," UC Berkeley advised through its Safety App at 10:35 a.m.

A reader who saw seven police cars in the area at 8 a.m. asked The Scanner to learn more about a body that had been found.

According to Berkeley police records, the call was categorized as a suicide and reported via 911 call.

East Bay parks has not confirmed that information and also declined to say whether there were any indications of foul play, citing the ongoing investigation.

The coroner's office was dispatched to retrieve the body.

Clark Kerr operations were not affected by the discovery, UC Berkeley said.
