A Berkeley woman who called 911 during an armed conflict in the street Monday became a target of crime herself, authorities said.

The incident began shortly after 1 p.m. when the Berkeley resident happened upon a woman arguing with someone in the street, both of them armed with knives, Berkeley police said in response to a Scanner inquiry.

As the resident called police, the armed woman stabbed in her direction, BPD said. She was not hurt, but the experience left her shaken.

Police and firefighters responded to the scene, at Ninth and Delaware streets in northwest Berkeley.

Officers arrived within minutes but the armed individuals were gone, so officers set up a perimeter and began to search, authorities said.

It didn't take long for them to track down the suspect with the knife, police said. Officers arrested her without incident.

Police said the woman would be booked on suspicion of attempted assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, pending medical clearance.

No other details were immediately available.
