A group of people grabbed someone on the UC Berkeley campus and put him into a van late Tuesday night before driving off, authorities report.

The University of California Police Department described the incident, in a notice at 2:10 a.m., as kidnapping and aggravated assault.

The crime alert did not say whether the victim had been located or if he was a student.

The only description of the kidnappers was that they were males.

According to the notification, the crime, which took place shortly before midnight, was not reported to police until 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The incident happened near Stephens Hall not far from the Campanile, authorities said.

No other information was immediately available.
