A young man was rushed to Highland Hospital late Friday night after being found without a pulse at a UC Berkeley fraternity pool, according to preliminary reports.

The Berkeley Fire Department was dispatched to Alpha Delta Phi, at 2422 Prospect St., just before 11:30 p.m. to render aid, according to radio traffic reviewed by The Scanner.

The young man, who was estimated to be just 19-20 years old, was found outside the pool in cardiac arrest, according to BFD radio traffic.

He remained unresponsive despite life-saving efforts including CPR.

Berkeley Fire rushed him to Highland Hospital "Code 3" (emergency status).

His condition as of publication time was not available. The Scanner is seeking additional information.

According to its website, the Alpha Delta Phi California Chapter at UC Berkeley was established in 1908 and counts Walter Haas Jr. and Allan Sproul among its notable alumni.

The Alpha Delta Phi pool is clearly visible on Google Maps and features prominently in its rush materials on social media.

Update: UC Berkeley provided the following statement Saturday. It appears below in full.

The campus is aware of reports of a drowning that occurred on the night of November 14, 2025 at a recognized fraternity located off-campus. We understand that a student is currently hospitalized.
Our thoughts are with the student, their family, loved ones and friends during this time. We are following our protocols to offer support to the student and their family. The safety and wellbeing of our students remains our top priority. 
We offer free and comprehensive psychological services to all students. For any students in need, please contact Counseling and Psychological Services located at UHS. We encourage students to seek support should they need. There is also information online regarding coping with traumatic events.
Note that privacy laws and university policies preclude us from discussing or confirming confidential student matters. Please also note that this is an active and ongoing police investigation. Questions regarding details of this incident should be directed to the Berkeley Police Department
