Berkeley police investigate sexual battery on College Ave.

A man walking home near UC Berkeley was sexually assaulted by a stranger overnight Saturday on College Avenue, authorities report.
The assailant — described as a Black man, 20-30 years old, 5 foot 10, in a black beanie cap, gray hooded top and black jeans — tried to make conversation and then pulled the victim into a driveway, Berkeley police said Monday morning.
The sexual battery, which police classified as the intent to commit rape, took place in the 2300 block of College Avenue near Bancroft Way at 1:50 a.m.
The victim was identified as a Berkeley man in his 20s. Authorities said they did not know if he is a UC Berkeley student.

The sex crime was reported to Berkeley police after the fact, authorities said. UC Berkeley put out an alert about it Monday morning.
