A man who spent hours inside a UC Berkeley sorority watching women sleep and possibly stealing their underwear has been arrested, police report.

The incident took place early Saturday morning in the 2300 block of Warring Street north of Channing Way, according to Berkeley police and community members familiar with the situation.

The man went in and out of the sorority several times Saturday throughout the night from approximately 3-6 a.m.

Berkeley police recognized the suspect, who used to stay in a local homeless encampment, from prior contacts, authorities said.

Berkeley police have been actively working the case since getting the disturbing report Saturday.

In the meantime, the sorority hired extra security as a precaution.
