Campus authorities are advising the community about a "non-stranger sexual assault" that took place on the UC Berkeley campus Saturday.

Unnamed "campus officials" released a vague notification about the incident Tuesday just after 3:50 p.m. via Cal's Safety App.

"On November 1st, a non-stranger sexual assault occurred in an on-campus residence hall. The incident was later reported to campus officials. Due to the nature of these cases, the university is unable to provide further details at this time."

The alert did not include the time or location of the incident, or anything about the nature of the sex crime report.

Shortly after publication, the University of California Police Department said the report had been made to a campus authority other than police, which explained the lack of details at this time.

The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made.

According to CrimeMapping, a repository of local police data, UCPD has received only one other sex crime report in its jurisdiction in the past six months.

It happened in May at University Village in Albany.

According to court files, no one has been charged in that case.

Editor's Note: This story was updated after publication to clarify who sent the alert and why more details are not currently available.
