'Major windshield damage': 2 people struck near UC Berkeley

A driver struck two pedestrians, including a pregnant woman, near UC Berkeley on Friday, sending both to Highland Hospital.
The crash took place at about 5:10 p.m. on Channing Way between Telegraph Avenue and Dana Street, according to radio traffic reviewed by The Scanner.
Police said the white Dodge that struck the pair had "major windshield damage" after the collision. The driver remained at the scene.
Police closed Channing Way between Telegraph and Dana to all pedestrian and car traffic at about 5:25 p.m.
Both pedestrians were rushed to Highland "Code 3," with lights and sirens, according to early reports.
The man who was with the pregnant woman was thrown 20 feet as a result of the collision, according to initial reports.
Just before 5:40 p.m., BPD called out its Fatal Accident Investigation Team, which handles serious as well as fatal crashes, to handle the collision.
