Berkeley High bathroom gun case: Charges filed
A student in the bathroom "heard mentions of a gun" and the sound of a firearm being racked, leading to the seizure of a gun on campus.

Authorities are looking for a teenager who failed to show up in court this month on a felony gun case from Berkeley High School, court papers show.
Over the summer, the Alameda County district attorney's office charged 19-year-old Patrick Seller, a Berkeley resident, with possession of a firearm in a school zone, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in public and carrying a concealed firearm on a person, according to charging papers.
All three crimes are listed as felonies.
The allegations date back to Dec. 11, 2024, when a student in a Berkeley High bathroom "heard mentions of a gun" and the sound of a firearm being racked, Berkeley police wrote in court papers.
Using school security footage, authorities identified six BHS students who had been in the restroom at the time.
One of the students, Patrick Seller, told police he had a gun in his backpack after he was removed from his classroom as part of the investigation, BPD wrote.
Inside his bag, police found a tan-colored Taurus handgun with an extended magazine holding 22 rounds, according to charging papers.
Seller was a BHS senior at the time, according to high school football records online.

Police arrested him that day and booked him into Berkeley Jail but he was not charged until July, according to court papers.
Seller was then scheduled for arraignment Sept. 3 but failed to appear in court, records show.
That afternoon, Judge Michael Risher issued a $75,000 bench warrant for his arrest, according to court records.
