The man who died Sunday in an early-morning solo freeway crash in Berkeley has been identified as Abdul Qadir Kamraan. He was just 35 years old.

Kamraan was alone in his Toyota Sienna minivan on eastbound Interstate 80 when he crashed into the guardrail at about 4:10 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash took place near the Ashby Avenue exit in West Berkeley.

One witness described the minivan "hanging off the side of the Ashby off-ramp," according to radio traffic reviewed by The Scanner.

Kamraan was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

There were indications he lived in Alameda, authorities said.

On Friday, however, the coroner's office said Kamraan's city of residence had not been confirmed due to the ongoing investigation.

At this point, authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.

As of Friday, the cause remains under investigation, CHP Oakland said.

The San Francisco Chronicle was the first to report the fatality Sunday in the hours after the crash.
