Berkeley officials voted Tuesday night to give a dead-end street to one of the city's largest taxpayers in response to concerns about a sprawling homeless encampment there.

We were at City Council past midnight and broke the news late last night that officials had approved a set of new Flock surveillance cameras — with what most officials described as appropriate safeguards and audits in place.

The program had been approved already, but police asked to make some changes before installing the cameras.
