TBS Today, July 10

Two scoops for The Scanner today.

First, a former BHS student has been charged with felony gun crimes after showing up near campus with a rifle in his waistband, according to court papers.

TBS found the case while poring through public records this week.

We also broke the news today about the name of the man who was killed when a driver struck him on Claremont Avenue on Tuesday night.

He was 67-year-old Roderick Nared (no permanent address). Readers tell us he may have been homeless and lived on the street near where he was killed.

Otherwise, all we've learned about him so far is that he once spent nearly a week in jail for a crime linked to his twin brother.

Police have so far declined to share details about the collision.

We'll continue to follow the story.
