One neighborhood resident told The Scanner it was far from the first time there was a serious collision in the area.

"We have seen multiple rollover accidents … over the last 15 years. Last year, a car lost control and drove up onto the sidewalk … only stopping when it hit a tree. A bicyclist was hit by an Uber driver in front of our house. And when my kid was in elementary school at John Muir, a little girl and her mother were hit in the crosswalk in front of the school," she wrote.

"Claremont is an incredibly dangerous street and Berkeley … doesn’t seem to be doing much about it," she continued. "We actually have a camera set up to track the number of cars, bikes and pedestrians that go by each day. It’s a lot. The road needs a diet."
