TBS Today, June 16
One exclusive report today along with a great way to support local journalism this week.
First: Police are investigating a serious assault Saturday morning that sent a young woman and her boyfriend to Highland Hospital, authorities report.
A pregnant woman who had spent the night in the ER called 911 for help when she saw a woman unconscious in the roadway just after 7 a.m.
A man was putting the woman into his car — but it wasn't quite what it seemed.
Here's what we learned.

We didn't want to miss a chance to help promote a worthwhile event in Berkeley this week at the Hillside Club.
The event — the Bay Area film premiere of Old Heart, a World War II-era drama about a "mixed-race couple involved in espionage" — is a benefit for the nonprofit LocalNewsMatters.org and Bay City News Foundation, the regional powerhouse behind public service news in the Bay Area (and soon-to-be fiscal sponsor of The Berkeley Scanner).
"Old Heart tells the story of Tom Johnson, an American soldier who is part of the Allied liberation of the Southern Netherlands in the fall of 1944. He works with a Jewish translator, Sarah van Praag, to smuggle food and supplies to starving residents of northern cities trapped behind Nazi lines. They also fall in love."
But that's not the end of the story: "Sixty years later, in the summer of 2005, Tom foils his family’s plan to move him to an assisted living facility by taking a flight to the Netherlands. He is determined to find Sarah again, the love of his life."
Old Heart, which was adapted from Peter Ferry’s award-winning novel of the same name, screens at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at the Hillside Club, 2286 Cedar St., in Berkeley. Tickets are $12.50-$18.

(In the interest of full disclosure, Scanner founder Emilie Raguso is also a member of the Hillside Club but received no compensation from any organization or individual to share this event.)
In case you missed it
Thank you again to everyone who shared photos, videos and experiences about Saturday's "No Kings" protest.
We didn't get to include everything you shared but we put in as much as we could.
Your reports helped provide a comprehensive picture of the event, which was particularly helpful given that we were stuck at home for health reasons.
Scanner readers are THE BEST! Thank you for helping TBS create a more informed, engaged community.
