Berkeley cyclists: Bike to Wherever Day comes Thursday
Find your Energizer Station on Thursday, May 15, to participate in Bike to Wherever Day. See the interactive Bike East Bay map to learn more about the events and see the full map key.

On Thursday, May 15, ride your bike — or a rental from a Berkeley bike share station — to work, on errands, to take kids to school, to see family and friends, or for simple fun.

You'll be able to stop at sites across Berkeley offering coffee, snacks and commemorative tote bags handed out by volunteers. You may even find live music, prizes and bike check-ups, including help with minor repairs.

Or join city officials for an 8:30 a.m. ride that starts at the Ashby BART station.

Plan your trip using the city's bike boulevards, calmed streets stretching across Berkeley that are engineered to discourage cut-through vehicle traffic and prioritize through-traffic by bicycle.

In doing so, you’ll be taking part in Bike to Wherever Day, a regional celebration of a sustainable mode of travel open to people of all ages and incomes. Come join us!

Making biking in Berkeley safer and more accessible

The city of Berkeley’s Public Works Department maintains and improves city streets to model a bicycle-friendly city, as outlined in the Berkeley Bicycle Plan.

The city is helping expand the number of bike share stations, making it easier to take quick one-way trips without needing to worry about maintenance or theft.

Give input online by May 21 or in person on Wednesday, May 14, on new station locations.

New survey supports a strong Berkeley Bike Plan: Op-ed
The authors commissioned a professional poll from a nonpartisan research agency to learn more about what Berkeley wants in its bike infrastructure.

This year, the city is also constructing bike boulevards at Mabel and Bonar streets from Parker to Addison, as well as on Parker Street from Mabel to Ninth Street.

The city is also planning other bikeways throughout Berkeley, including the Telegraph Avenue Multimodal Corridor Project, the Woolsey-Fulton Bicycle Boulevard Project and the Ohlone Greenway Safety Improvements Project.
