TBS Today, May 13
Three stories for you today: an update on the UC Berkeley stabbing outside the Lawrence Hall of Science, a random incident of pepper spray on Shattuck Avenue, and details on how to participate in this week's "Bike to Wherever Day."
Plus: How to tune in to Thursday's budget meeting and what's happening at council tonight (not much!).

In other news
The City Council budget committee meets next on Thursday at 10 a.m. We can't attend live but will follow up afterward.
You can see the agenda packet, and learn how to watch online or attend the budget meeting, on the city website.
We'll definitely be keeping a close eye on the budget in the coming weeks, up through the City Council vote about it at the end of June. Stay tuned for ongoing coverage.
There is also a City Council meeting tonight, but it's a closed session on labor negotiations, city leases and pending litigation.
In case you missed it

As we said yesterday, we want our guest essays to highlight a range of views, including those you might not typically find in our comments.
As news outlets become more fragmented, our democracy falters, particularly when folks only read stories that reinforce their own perspectives. Being able to have respectful dialogue and debate, even when we disagree, is a core tenet of our civic experience.
If you have your own public safety-related guest essay ideas to pitch, let us know.
