Buldan Seka, the 86-year-old artist who struck conservationist Julia Elkin while driving in the Berkeley Hills last year, has been found guilty of vehicular manslaughter.

Seka gave up her license as part of the negotiated settlement.

If she complies with the terms of the deal, the criminal case against her will later be dropped in what's called deferred entry of judgment. She may still face civil litigation.

Here's what happened in court.

Driver found guilty in vehicular manslaughter of Julia Elkin
The crash that killed Elkin, on Feb. 12, 2024, was one of several fatal pedestrian collisions in Berkeley involving elderly drivers.

The family told us they invited TBS to the hearing, and no other reporters, because they appreciated our approach to this devastating incident last year.

Needless to say, this is the highest praise we can hope to receive.

In case you missed it

Please note the correction we posted shortly after publication on this week's police shooting story: The bodycam of the officer who shot Ricardo Ruiz shut down abruptly before the shooting.

That did not appear to be due to anything the officer did, sources familiar with the investigation said.
