TBS Today, May 31

Today's story is focused on our neighbor to the south, but to say Oakland public safety doesn't affect Berkeley would be short-sighted.

On Tuesday night, hundreds of Oaklanders demanded answers and action from city leaders amid recent sprees of violent crime that have increasingly targeted women.

We've seen similar impacts and issues in Berkeley.

The subject of the DA's office also came up.

North Oakland Councilman Dan Kalb organized the meeting. Kalb and Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguín have both said they will run for Nancy Skinner's Senate seat in 2024.

Violence against women was a recurrent theme throughout the night: “Women are being assaulted. Let’s not sugarcoat this,” one woman said.
