A teenager who claimed to have a gun robbed a 20-year-old UC Berkeley student several blocks from campus early Thursday morning, authorities report.

Police say the robbery took place at College Avenue and Haste Street in the Southside neighborhood shortly before 12:20 a.m.

According to the University of California Police Department, which pushed out a campus alert just before 1 a.m., the robber was described as a teenage male in a black zip-up jacket and gray sweatpants.

He threatened the student and took his wallet, police said.

Then he got into a red four-door sedan and left eastbound on Haste Street.

Police say the culprit was "believed to have been in the company of a second individual" who got into a white four-door sedan and also left the area.

That person was described only as male, according to UCPD.

Between BPD and UCPD, there were at least 18 robberies reported in Berkeley from Jan. 1-26, the most recent date available, according to CrimeMapping.com.

In the past six months, there have been at least 134 robberies reported to BPD, UCPD or BART police.
