"Due to favorable changes in the weather, PG&E has informed customers in the East Bay they can expect to have power restored earlier than previously planned," a PG&E spokeswoman said Thursday in a prepared statement.

In Alameda County, more than 5,000 customers are experiencing outages due to this week's Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS).

On Thursday afternoon, PG&E said that about 6,300 customers in Alameda and Contra Costa counties had been notified about the decision to try to turn the power back on sooner.
