If you are already registered, [check your voter status](https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) before Oct. 19 to confirm that your information is correct. You need to re-register if you have moved, changed your name or wish to change your political party preference. Berkeley 16- and 17-year-olds can register to vote for school board representatives. The ballot for Berkeley residents will include the auditor, four council members, five rent board members, three school board seats and seven ballot measures. You can help shape these decisions. [Register to vote](https://registertovote.ca.gov/?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) by Oct. 19 to receive a vote-by-mail ballot. ## How to register to vote Register to vote online at the California Secretary of State's [Voter Registration website](https://registertovote.ca.gov/?ref=berkeleyscanner.com). Youth voters 16 and 17 will select the "pre-register to vote" option. You'll need: - California driver's license or ID card number - Last four digits of your Social Security number - Date of birth If you don't have a California driver's license or state-issued ID, you can still fill out the [online registration form](https://registertovote.ca.gov/?ref=berkeleyscanner.com). The website will create a pre-filled application for you to print, sign and mail. Alternatively, register with paper applications, available at any public library, the City Clerk Department at 2180 Milvia St., the U.S. Post Office or the DMV. Paper applications must be postmarked or hand-delivered by 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, to: **Alameda County Registrar of Voters** 1225 Fallon St., Room G1 Oakland, CA 94612 ## Same-day voter registration If you miss the deadline, you can still vote provisionally by registering at a [vote center](https://www.acgov.org/rov%5Fapp/vcalist?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) or at the [Registrar of Voters](https://acvote.alamedacountyca.gov/index?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) office between Oct. 19 and Nov. 3. If you register after Oct. 19, your ballot will be processed and counted after the Registrar of Voters has verified your registration. That verification takes time, so these "conditional ballots" will not be counted in election night results. ## Who can vote Berkeley residents ages 16 and 17 can vote in the School Board Director election. To vote for all other offices and ballot measures, you must be 18 years or older on Election Day. To be eligible to vote, you must also be: - a United States citizen - a California resident - not currently serving a [state or federal prison term](https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voting-resources/voting-california/who-can-vote-california/voting-rights-californians/?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) for a felony conviction - not currently judged mentally incompetent to vote by a court of law ## Berkeley candidates and ballot measures The following Berkeley offices are up for election on the Nov. 3 ballot: - Auditor - [City Council Districts](https://berkeleyca.gov/your-government/city-council/council-district-lookup?ref=berkeleyscanner.com): 1, 4, 7 and 8 - Rent Board (5 seats) - School Board (3 seats) The list of qualified candidates is available online on the [Candidate Information](https://berkeleyca.gov/your-government/elections/candidate-information?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) page.
