Three people are vying for the District 8 seat on the [Berkeley City Council](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-city-council/) in November.

In ballot order, they are: Mark Humbert (City Councilmember), Michael Wallman (Systems Engineer) and Mari Mendonca (Organizer/Advocate).

We sent each candidate the same set of questions. Here's what they said.

[Who is Berkeley City Council candidate Mark Humbert?“I am running on a hopeful, forward-looking vision for how Berkeley can embrace positive change while honoring our history and living out our values.”![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/icon/The-Berkeley-Scanner_Icon_Color-1227079f-9cee-4c65-851d-9d1c8563153c.jpg)The Berkeley ScannerGuest Contributor![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/thumbnail/unnamed-32291e81-201f-4eb2-8e02-406118b4fcd2.jpg)](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2026/09/28/elections/berkeley-city-council-candidate-mark-humbert/)

[Who is Berkeley City Council candidate Michael Wallman?“To build an equitable, vibrant Berkeley, we need leaders who understand technology, rely on data, listen, create jobs, and fight injustice.”![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/icon/The-Berkeley-Scanner_Icon_Color-3414e43b-578b-422f-a005-f512cb5df186.jpg)The Berkeley ScannerGuest Contributor![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/thumbnail/michael-wallman-311948bc-cbc3-4b27-b87d-333d198e3764.jpg)](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2026/09/28/elections/berkeley-city-council-candidate-michael-wallman/)

[Who is Berkeley City Council candidate Mari Mendonca?“The voices of Berkeleyans have been drowned out by co-opted leadership serving outside special interests and lobbyists.”![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/icon/The-Berkeley-Scanner_Icon_Color-33fb0285-d2da-47d6-aadf-d93a4ba13b2a.jpg)The Berkeley ScannerGuest Contributor![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/thumbnail/_MG_3204-91802a5b-53fc-4748-9911-43544173b504.jpg)](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2026/09/28/elections/who-is-berkeley-city-council-candidate-mari-mendonca/)
