The woman's adult daughter and her pet were able to escape on their own, authorities said. According to radio dispatches, the [Berkeley Fire Department](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-fire-department/) was sent to the 2400 block of Browning Street, between Dwight Way and Channing Way, at about 9:40 p.m. Friday after [someone called 911](https://berkeleycrime.com/i/id/fe1d9938-8cf8-4a3c-9c13-ea840198013c?ref=berkeleyscanner.com). Firefighters were advised of an older woman who "might still be inside the home," according to emergency dispatches. "She's going to need help getting out." Initial reports pointed to a fire involving the microwave. When firefighters arrived, some members of the crew began attacking the blaze while others went inside to find the resident, the Berkeley Fire Department said Wednesday. They found her on the floor near the kitchen and quickly brought her outside, authorities said. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died from her injuries. The fire was under control as of 9:53 p.m., according to radio dispatches. As of this week, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the department said. "Additional information may be released as it becomes available and appropriate," BFD said. According to public records, a 78-year-old woman lived in the home with her 51-year-old daughter. As of Wednesday, the name of the deceased woman had not been released. The Scanner has requested it from the coroner's office.
