Details were slim, but the incident happened in the 1900 block of Channing Way, which runs along the sports field on the southern edge of the Berkeley High campus, [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said in response to a Scanner inquiry. The student was initially walking east on Allston Way leaving school at about 4:40 p.m. when a teenager on an e-scooter approached him. The rider threatened to beat up the student, who was able to flee. Eventually, however, he was confronted in the 1900 block of Channing Way by the scooter rider and two other teenagers, police said. They knocked the student to the ground and punched and kicked him before taking his wallet. All three wore ski masks and dark clothing and appeared to be 14 to 16 years old, police said. The group ran off in an unknown direction after the strong-arm robbery. No other details were released. There have been [no apparent school communications](https://lists.lmi.net/pipermail/bhs/?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) about the incident. Robberies have plummeted in Berkeley in recent years. For years before the pandemic, the city averaged about a robbery a day.
