### In other news: Weigh in on comments

In April, we [opened comments](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2026/04/01/editors-desk/berkeley-scanner-comments-pilot/) to all verified TBS subscribers — not just paying members. The results for this one-month pilot were undeniable: We saw more comments, more subscribers and more engagement with our work.

Note: As we [mentioned yesterday](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2026/05/29/newsletters/tbs-today-may-28-2026/), Kate Darby Rauch spoke with Reed's family and friends so we could share his story.

Due to an editing oversight on my part, the story byline defaulted to my name. That has been fixed.
