# Man found dead on Berkeley sidewalk

A man in his 30s was found deceased on a Berkeley sidewalk Thursday morning, authorities report.

Readers [asked The Scanner for details](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/tips/) after seeing police activity in the neighborhood. 

Police responded to the 1400 block of Carleton Street, at Acton Street, just after 7 a.m. after getting a report about an unresponsive man on the sidewalk.

Arriving first responders confirmed that the man was deceased.

There were no obvious signs of foul play, [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said.

The coroner's office took custody of the body and will now determine cause of death.

**Update, 12:45 p.m.** The man has been identified as Reed McNally Geritz, 37, of Berkeley, the Alameda County coroner's office said.
