# Update: Man shot multiple times in South Berkeley

Berkeley police are investigating a shooting that sent a man to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds Thursday night.

It's the first injury shooting in Berkeley since October 2024 (aside from a [non-fatal police shooting](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/ricardo-ruiz/) last year).

The man, who appeared to be in his early 20s, was conscious at the scene, according to early reports.

Several vehicles and an apartment building were also hit, [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said.

The call came out shortly before 11 p.m. in the 3200 block of Idaho Street, authorities said.

"We've got 911 blowing up," a Berkeley Fire dispatcher reported over the radio, according to emergency dispatches reviewed by The Scanner.

One person said it sounded like "25 shots in succession." Another described it as "automatic weapon fire."

"I've sent gunshot reports to you in the past," a reader said, "but it was never this many shots."

The [Berkeley Fire Department](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-fire-department/) took the patient to Highland Hospital "Code 3" (with lights and sirens) just after 11:10 p.m., according to radio dispatches.

As of 12:10 a.m. Friday, Berkeley police remained at the scene collecting evidence.

Prior to Thursday night's shooting, there had been [five non-injury shootings](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/shootings/) in and around Berkeley in 2026.
