# Berkeley hit-and-run crash sends pedestrian to hospital

Police in Berkeley closed part of Adeline Street to investigate a hit-and-run collision that sent a man to the hospital Tuesday night.

The crash was reported just after 8:10 p.m. at Adeline and Harmon streets in [South Berkeley](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/south-berkeley/).

Firefighters found the pedestrian on the ground at the scene.

After the crash, authorities closed the roadway in the northbound direction for the investigation, [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said in response to a Scanner inquiry. 

It is expected to reopen soon.

The driver may have been in a dark-colored sedan, police said.

Officers remain at the scene speaking with witnesses and taking measurements.

The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, lost consciousness and did not recall the crash.

He was struck by a driver going approximately 40 mph and flung about 15 feet, according to early reports.

The pedestrian was taken to Highland Hospital, the regional trauma center, after the collision.

As of publication time, the investigation was ongoing.

Based on the initial determination, the man was expected to survive, police said.
